History:
Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt conceptualized in revisiting their one of the most successful romantic movie Aashiqui then produced by Gulshan Kumar. Aashiqui 2, set in modern day with modern tales of love, was officially announced in early 2012 scripted by Shagufta Rafiqui.
Soon after the announcement of the movie and post the scripting, there was a rumour of Tiger Shroff (son of Jackie Shroff) to be the lead actor in place of Rahul Roy in the older version. But T-Series and Bhatts finally announced the hero will be played by Aditya Roy Kapoor and the lead actress will be Shraddha Kapoor.
